Under the direction of the Clinical Champion/Informatics (RPN VI), is responsible for assisting in the development and ongoing maintenance of all aspects of the pharmacy and related applications, clinical information systems and computerized pharmacy systems, software and hardware. Supports resolution of all general computer related issues within the pharmacy departments, across all regions and facilities within HHSC who will be using Soarian Pharmacy Solution. The Pharmacy Technician is responsible to engage and encourage collaboration among facilities/end users to accomplish these outcomes. Responsible for assisting in the clinical coordination of Electronic Medical Records Initiative. Coordinates work flow analysis of assigned area(s) to define current work flow, and develop “desired state.” Incorporates the needs of multiple facilities/regions. Understand goals of the team, and relationship of team with other components of EMR project. Develops positive working relationships with team members. Gathers, incorporates, and assimilates data to develop current and desired work flows. Insures information, issues, and challenges are coordinated with other EMR work teams to insure successful coordination of functions throughout the enterprise. Incorporates knowledge of regulatory requirements (TJC, CMS, DOH and others) in implementing best practices. Performs other duties as assigned.

Experience Requirements: One (1) year of work experience in a pharmacy setting (i.e., community pharmacy, hospitals, other medical institutions) which provided basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; pharmaceutical system of weights and measures (e.g., milligrams, milliliters, cubic centimeters, etc.); commonly used pharmaceutical preparations used in the treatment of illnesses; dosage requirements; storage requirements; routes of drug administration; and practices and procedures employed in filling pharmacy prescriptions; and the ability to perform basic arithmetic computations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division); and transcribe accurate medication profiles.
In addition to the above requirement, one (1) year of work experience assisting a licensed pharmacist in a hospital which required receiving and reading prescription and medication orders from physicians; performing arithmetic computations to determine proper measurements/quantities of pharmaceutical components required; measuring, counting, packaging, and labeling items and arranging them for final professional review. The work experience must have demonstrated a knowledge of commonly used pharmaceutical preparations used in the treatment of illnesses, dosage requirements, dosage forms, storage requirements; experience in receiving and reading requisitions from pharmacists; measuring, counting, packaging, and labeling items; aseptic techniques; routes of drug administration; pharmaceutical nomenclature; pharmaceutical system of weights and measures; procedures and operations relating to aseptic compounding and parenteral admixture operations; arranging medication for final professional review; maintaining accurate inventory records; State and Federal pharmacy regulations; applicable hospital/unit policies and procedures; and the ability to provide pharmaceutical services in accordance with established procedures and methods; measure drug doses accurately; maintain records and prepare reports; and communicate effectively orally and in writing..
Selective Certification: Applicants must be willing and able to travel extensively between all HHSC facilities and to work onsite at Maui Memorial Medical Center (MMMC), Wailuku, Maui for approximately 5 – 7 months or as required to implement the EMR project
1. Successful completion of a pharmacy technician program from an accredited school may be substituted for all of the experience required for the entry and six (6) months of the full performance level, or
2. Successful completion of a practical nursing program from an accredited community college or possession of a current license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in the State of Hawaii, or equivalent, may be substituted for all of the experience required for the entry and six (6) months of the full performance level, or
3. At least one (1) year of work experience as a Licensed Practical Nurse who administered a variety of medications on a daily basis which provided a basic knowledge of pharmaceutical nomenclature; commonly used pharmaceutical preparations used in the treatment of illnesses; dosage forms; dosage and frequency requirements; storage requirements; and various routes of drug administration, may be substituted for all of the experience required for the entry and full performance level, or
4. Possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy from an accredited college or university may be substituted for all of the experience required for the entry and full performance level.

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be physically able to perform efficiently and effectively the duties of the job which will involve extensive travel to all HHSC facilities, and will be subject to long hours and irregular schedules. Must be able to work in a variety of environments, and able to adapt to an array of physical surroundings. This position must be able to work at different HHSC facilities for extended periods (i.e., Maui for approximately 5 - 7months), as defined during project schedule.
