The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) position is responsible for the total operation and management of the Corporate Office on a day-to-day basis. The CEO is appointed by the HHSC Board of Directors; the Board shall determine the appropriate process and means by which this appointment shall be made in accordance with HHSC Corporate Board Bylaws.
The corporation assumes responsibility for the 15 facilities in 5 regions within Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) and within the 501c3s in which HHSC is the sole member. HHSC is a multi-hospital and multi-regional system organization comprised of acute care hospitals, Long Term Care facilities, Critical Access Hospitals (CAHs), a State Veterans Home, a Home Health Operation, a 501c3 CAH, a 501c3 Assisted Living facility, a 501c3 Foundation, and several physician clinics.
MAJOR DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Within parameters set by the HHSC Corporate Board of Directors and in collaboration with both the Regional System Boards (RSBs) of Directors and the five Regional CEOs, the CEO is responsible for the total operation and management of the Corporate Office on a day-to-day basis, including but not limited to, its services, personnel, facilities, finances, policy development, assessment, and planning.
- Provides leadership and guidance of HHSC and its subsidiaries to ensure that the system meets or exceeds established operational performance objectives.
- Helps coordinate system-wide operations to ensure that the organization projects an integrated approach to health care and achieves high quality, economical health care services.
- In situations where Corporate Board directed outcomes are not achievable through collaboration with the RSBs and/or the RCEOs, the CEO will seek adjudication assistance by asking the HHSC Corporate Board for intervention/involvement in indicated processes, issues, etc.
- This position reports to the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation Board of Directors.
Education Requirement: Graduate level education or the equivalent.
Specialized Experience: At least ten (10) years of progressive senior level hospital executive, administrative, and leadership experience.
Certification: FACHE Board certification preferred.

STEPS TO AN ADMINISTRATIVE REVIEW, SUBSEQUENT APPEALS: If you do not agree with a decision made by the Employment Office as to your non-qualification or non-selection for a position, you may complete a Request for Administrative Review form (available on the HHSC website) or you may submit a written request within twenty (20) days from the date of your sent notice to the Regional Chief Executive Officer/Designee. The job title(s) and recruitment number(s), 2. the specific reason(s) you are requesting the review noting if there is a statute or rule violation, and 3. any additional information you want to submit to substantiate your request. If you do not submit your request within the twenty (20) days deadline, no Administrative Review will be conducted. Since the Administrative Review is a prerequisite to subsequent steps, failure to utilize this process will make you ineligible for subsequent appeals.
