2/4/2013 - West Hawaii is Live!! Congratulations!! (memo below)
TO:
HHSC-KCH/Kohala EMERGE Project Team CC:
KCH-Kohala Senior Leadership Team FROM:
Alan Ito, Chief Information Officer, Hawaii Health Systems
Corporation RE:
Thank you!
DATE:
February 4, 2013 _____________________________________________________________________________________ It is with sincere gratitude that I wish to thank each of you who serve on the
EMERGE Project Team. You have
been part of an amazing journey to transform patient care. Your individual and collective
efforts today – as KCH and Kohala Hospital have demonstrated a strong Day
1 go-live – are certainly evidence that your hard work and detailed
planning is paying off. Our journey has certainly not been easy, is not perfect, and is not
quite over as we continue to learn and manage Command Center issues over
the next days ahead. Thank
you for remembering that each “issue” represents a patient, a real person
on the end of that “ticket” and to treat issues with the utmost of care
and priority until fully resolved.
I want to commend many of you as you “huddled” today to resolve
issues. Your compassion for
patients and heightened concern for their safety, in addition to our
ability to be efficient and effective was present in conversations. Please maintain this focus!
As we move into system stabilization, post-live support and
optimization efforts, we may still continue to experience challenges here
and there. I’m fully
convinced however, with the diligence, teamwork, patience and true focus
on patient care seen demonstrated today – HHSC employees will adopt our
new technologies with relative ease and will become “meaningful users” of
our enhanced systems because of you!
Mahalo!

Latest HHSC Electronic Medical Records (EMR) Update Posted by John Marnell - 09/17/2012
Aloha, The Integrated Testing
Kickoff at Kona Community Hospital on August 27 was just incredible!
Facility representatives from the HHSC Maui, Kauai, Oahu
and West Hawaii regions and Siemens, totaling over 100, are
participating in the 4-week testing effort. The first week provided
a great opportunity for the attendees to test, make recommendation,
revise integrated testing scenarios and track progress of collaborative
efforts. The application teams
worked on 700-plus test scenarios and prepared numerous testing modules
related to the various departments of our facilities, including emergency
department, medical records, admitting, nursing, critical care, finance,
radiology, billing, and computerized physician order entry. Overall
the kickoff week was a great success. For this upcoming week,
more integrated testing can be expected. At the same time, Dawn
Wooten, HHSC Training Coordinator and the Siemens Education Consultants
are in the process of developing the education material for the End-User
training as the EMR design phase concludes. The second round of
testing, which is scheduled to begin in mid-October will involve more HHSC
facility staff from the regions, focused on day-in-a-life scenarios of a
patient from admission to treatment, discharge and billing.
In light of the on-going
and numerous testing and tracking efforts, Stage 4 is an extremely
challenging stage in the EMR implementation. Nonetheless, all of the
EMeRGE application team members remain committed and excited in doing what
needs to get done to meet the timelines of the EMeRGE Go-Live schedule:
Kona Community Hospital and
Kohala Hospital, February 2013 Maui Memorial Medical
Center, April 2013 Kauai Veterans Memorial
Hospital and Samuel Mahelona Memorial Hospital, May 2013 Kula Hospital and Lanai
Community Hospital, June 2013 Maluhia and Kahuku Medical
Center, July 2013 Leahi Hospital, August
2013 HHSC has placed the order for the new
EMR PCs for West Hawaii. This includes mobile workstations,
wall-mounted computers, and portable computers (laptops, tablets,
etc.). We are progressing along with the data network upgrades,
including running new cabling to enable a more reliable and faster
end-user computing experience. HHSC is in the process of
gathering the final requirements before ordering the new patient
wristbands and employee badges. The employee badges will be used to
help staff quickly log in and out of computers, enabling employees to work
more efficiently. Your continued support and
participation is very much appreciated. We invite you to
share your feedback about the HHSC EMeRGE project at EMR@hhsc.org. And stay
