Aloha,

In the spirit of the HHSC EMeRGE Project, the demand for mobile applications is definitely increasing.  Whether it is for accessing patient records, charting or e-prescribing, busy doctors and hospital staff will depend on these time-saving tools that will interface to our new EMR.

Through a system-wide approach, the HHSC regions have begun looking at various ways to better understand what kinds of future electronic devices would work best for our facilities’ staff and Medical Staffs.  The Device Fairs that began the week of March 19th have provided such an opportunity.   The attendee turnout was truly amazing.   As of March 23 (attendance at the Vendor Fairs only), the results are as follows:

  • HHSC Kauai Region – 104
  • HHSC Oahu Region – 122
  • HHSC Maui Region - 317
  • HSC West Hawaii Region – 164

Attendees got a chance to check out the various vendor devices available on the market today and talk to the vendor representatives.  The Device Fair attendees were also asked to complete a survey.  Following the survey submission deadline on  April 5, the EMR Device Review Team, comprised of 11 members, will meet during  April to finalize product selection based on feedback data, product specifications, and vendor offerings/quotes.

 The committee members include:

  1. Ramsey Hasan, M.D., HHSC Chief Medical Information Officer
  2. Tricia Won, HHSC Oahu Region, IT Manager
  3. Pat Kalua, HHSC West Hawaii Region Administrator
  4. James Brady, Ph. D., HHSC Director of Technical Services
  5. Kathy Bauer, HHSC Maui Region, Assistant Director of Nursing
  6. Pat Saka, HHSC Maui Region, Chief Operating Officer
  7. Brian Hendrixon, HHSC Oahu Region, ER Manager
  8. Floyd Tokusato, HHSC West Hawaii Region, IT Manager
  9. Tereza Jurasek, HHSC Maui Region, Director of Rehab Service
  10. Angel Wannemacher, HHSC West Hawaii Region, Supervisor
  11. Constantin Novoselsky, M.D., Maui Physician Champion

We will be sure to keep you informed on the device selection process as it rolls out.

At this point, the HHSC EMeRGE Project is at Stage 3.  This is another important phase that involves many design work sessions, involving your facility’s financial and clinical representatives and the Siemens project team.  Stage 3 will also involve the customization, integration and testing of our key hospital application units.

Lastly, the HHSC Physicians Advisory Group, comprised of Physician Champions from the regions, began meeting in March, and will be meeting on a bi-weekly basis.  During the week of April 9th Siemens consultant Dr. Nicholas and HHSC CMIO Dr. Hasan will be visiting Emergency Departments in Maui, Kona, KVMH and Kahuku to provide ED staff a Soarian demo and an opportunity for hands-on time with Soarian EMR.

Again, we invite you to share your feedback about the EMeRGE project at EMR@hhsc.org.  And stay informed about the latest HHSC EMeRGE updates and news via the following
