SALARY RANGE: $51,135 – $60,000 annual
JOB DUTIES: The Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) is a multi-hospital and multi-regional healthcare system comprised of Acute Care Hospitals, Long Term Care facilities, Critical Access Hospitals, multiple outpatient clinics, and affiliated entities and foundations. The Corporate Office is located in Leahi Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii.
The Office of the General Counsel, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC), provides legal services to the Corporate office, the HHSC Corporate Board of Directors, and the Regional health care systems and their respective facilities all of which combined comprise HHSC. The Office of the General Counsel reports directly to the President and Chief Executive Officer.
The primary duties and responsibilities of this position is to assist the Vice President & General Counsel in preparing and organizing various legal documents; performing legal research and preparing summaries of specific decisions, laws, statutes and legal matters; reviewing and maintaining file of claims; performing or assisting in internal investigations and reviews as necessary.
THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE: Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.
EDUCATION: Associate of Science in Paralegal from an accredited college or university approved by the American Bar Association.
EXPERIENCE: Minimum of three (3) years of Paralegal work experience which demonstrated that the applicant possesses knowledge of interviewing techniques, rules of evidence, the legal system and procedures, legal research methods and sources of legal information, and that the applicant also has the ability to understand and explain legal processes and procedures, evaluate and analyze facts and legal issues, prepare legal reports, documents and correspondence, speak clearly and follow oral and written instructions.
CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE: None required.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: The position requires excellent communication skills, both orally and in writing, to draft documents and correspondence, and to communicate effectively with outside contacts. Good organizational skills and the ability to be self-directed are necessary to handle multiple tasks and deadlines. Good judgment and common sense are essential as well as the ability to handle confidential legal matters on a routine basis. This position requires skill in the use of the computer, to include Microsoft Office including Word, Excel and email applications, and other office equipment.
WORKING CONDITION/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The position is located indoors in an air-conditioned office environment. The majority of the applicant’s workday will consist of sitting, with occasional standing, walking, reach and bending.
