JOB DUTIES:  The Hawaii Health Systems Corporation (HHSC) is a multi-hospital and multi-regional healthcare system comprised of Acute Care Hospitals, Long Term Care facilities, Critical Access Hospitals, multiple outpatient clinics, and affiliated entities and foundations.  The Corporate Office is located in Leahi Hospital, Honolulu, Hawaii.

This position serves as the Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety.  This position oversees a comprehensive, system-wide risk management and patient safety program.  In doing so, the Director of Risk Management and Patient Safety develops, implements, and evaluates the risk management and patient safety program for the HHSC system, in conjunction with the Regional and Facility Risk Managers, and under the direction of the Vice President & General Counsel.

THE MINIMUM QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS ARE:  Applicants must meet all of the following requirements. Please note that unless specifically indicated; the required education and experiences may not be gained concurrently. In addition, qualifying work experiences are based on a 40-hour work week.

EDUCATION:  A Bachelor’s, masters or doctoral degree in a healthcare profession, health administration, or public administration, or a law degree.

EXPERIENCE:  This position requires a minimum of five years of experience in acute hospitals and/or integrated healthcare delivery systems, and a broad knowledge of hospital operations.  Position requires extensive experience in risk management, performing risk management or patient safety activities and/or patient relations in an institutional setting.

CERTIFICATION ARM, CPCU, GASHRM, DFASHRM, or CPHQ or CPHRM designation is desirable.

LICENSE:  None required.

REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

This position requires post-graduate level competencies in statistical analysis.  Position requires excellent analytical, organizational and communication skills, and the ability to handle multiple projects at the same time.  Position requires a healthcare administrative or clinical background in a hospital or healthcare facility setting.

REQUIRED FORMS & DOCUMENTATION: Applicants must submit evidence of the appropriate training (e.g. official transcript or diploma and certifications) to be given credit for education.  A legible photocopy will be accepted; however, Hawaii Health Systems Corporation reserves the right to request an official copy.

MEDICAL/PHYSICAL EXAMINATION REQUIREMENTS:  Offers of employment will be contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment physical examination, which includes drug screen and other regulatory medical requirements such as, but not limited to, two-step tuberculosis (TB) screen.  The cost for physical examinations, except the cost for drug screening, shall borne by the applicant and not the Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.

COVID-19 VACCINATION REQUIREMENT:  COVID-19 vaccination is a condition of employment for Hawaii Health Systems Corporation.  After receiving a conditional offer of employment, all prospective new HHSC employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19.  New employees are required to provide confirmation of their full vaccination status by presenting their CDC Vaccination card or VAS Certificate prior to their start date.
